FLOW CITY: 12th Iloilo Bike Festival Brands City as Nation’s Bicycle Capital

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — The 12th Iloilo Bike Festival has officially started, cementing the city’s title as the bicycle capital of the nation. The month-long grand celebration will run from June 3 until June 30, 2026. This year’s official theme is “FLOW CITY: Iloilo Always on the Move.” Local leaders and cycling advocates designed the event to promote active mobility, green transportation, and urban health. Thousands of local and international cyclists are expected to fill the streets throughout the month.

Main Venues and Hubs

The Megaworld Iloilo Business Park serves as the main venue for outdoor racing and community gatherings. Meanwhile, Festive Walk Mall hosts several indoor exhibitions, registration hubs, and assemblies. The Iloilo City Government is collaborating closely with various private sector partners and local cycling clubs. Dedicated traffic teams are deployed along all routes to guarantee total rider safety. Ample public parking spaces are designated specifically for bicycles around the main venues. First aid stations and emergency medical teams stand ready at critical junction points.

Competitive Races and Side Events

Thrilling competitive races serve as a major highlight of this year’s month-long festival. The high-octane Mega Criterium Race challenges experienced, high-speed cyclists from June 13 to June 14. Elite riders will navigate sharp, technical turns within the secure business park perimeter. Spectators can watch the intense racing action safely from designated roadside viewing decks.
Additionally, the grueling Iloilo Duathlon tests overall athlete endurance on the morning of June 21. This multi-sport event combines intense running and cycling segments across a challenging urban course. Generous cash prizes, custom medals, and trophies await the top podium finishers in each category. Online registration portals remain open for athletes wanting to join the competitive divisions.

Youth and Family Activities

The festival heavily emphasizes inclusivity by offering special activities for younger generations. The adorable Push Bike Race targets toddlers and young children on June 20. This unique side event takes place on a safe track inside Festive Walk Mall. Children use balance bikes without pedals to navigate a short, obstacle-free racecourse. The fun activity fosters a deep love for cycling at a very early age. Enthusiastic parents eagerly cheer for their little racers from the crowded sidelines. Every single young participant receives a special commemorative medal for finishing. Protective safety gear like helmets and knee pads is strictly required for all kids.

Community Rides and Food Crawls

Leisure riders can enjoy plenty of non-competitive community activities throughout the city. The Bike to Work Day Ride successfully launched the opening week on June 5. Participants cycled a scenic 20-kilometer route through several historic districts and public plazas. This specific ride successfully promotes cycling as a viable option for daily office commutes.

The highly anticipated Grand Fun Ride will take place on the morning of June 21. This massive, slow-paced caravan welcomes casual riders, families, and visiting tourists. The route beautifully showcases the city’s award-winning protected bike lane networks. Organizers aim to break previous community attendance records with this massive event. Participants are encouraged to wear colorful, festive cycling jerseys to celebrate the occasion.
The innovative Food Bike Crawl also runs consecutively for the entire month of June. Cyclists visit various partner restaurants across the city to enjoy exclusive festival discounts. This brilliant initiative effectively boosts local culinary tourism and supports small food businesses.

Green Technology Exhibitions

An innovative Electric Car Show will also run from June 24 to June 27. The modern exhibition displays the latest advancements in eco-friendly vehicle technologies. This side event complements the festival’s core message of reducing harmful carbon emissions. Green tech brands will display modern electric scooters, hybrid cars, and electronic bicycles. Visitors can test drive select vehicle models within safely designated testing zones.
Infrastructure and Advocacy
Local leaders are using this month-long platform to advocate for better road infrastructure. Iloilo City continues to expand its permanent, interconnected bike lane networks each year. The city aims to inspire other urban centers nationwide to adopt green layouts. Well-designed, protected bike lanes significantly reduce traffic congestion and heavy air pollution. This infrastructure ultimately improves the overall health and lifestyle of local citizens. The annual festival proves that public streets belong to people, not just motorized cars.

Registration Details

Riders can register online through the official Iloilo Bike Festival Facebook Page. The platform provides direct registration links and comprehensive event schedules. Most community fun rides are completely free and open to the general public. However, competitive races require a minimal entry fee to cover professional timing chips. Registered participants receive event shirts, race bibs, and various sponsor freebies. Kit distribution occurs daily at the dedicated Festive Walk Mall caravan booth.
